Esprit D'Air release new rap/nu metal single "Zetsubou no Hikari"

Esprit D’Air return with a bold shift in sound on their latest single "Zetsubou no Hikari" (“Light of Despair”), released today. Blending intense nu metal riffs with rap vocals and crushing breakdowns, the track sees the band push beyond their melodic roots into heavier, more confrontational territory—marking one of the most aggressive and raw moments in their discography to date.

Written and produced by frontman Kai, "Zetsubou no Hikari" explores the chaos of inner demons and the desperate search for light amid mental darkness. “It’s about feeling trapped in your own mind”, says Kai. “There’s frustration, rage, hopelessness—but also a glimmer of fight. It’s screaming into the void, hoping someone hears”.

The single follows the gothic-laced power metal track "Shadow of Time", released just two weeks prior on March 14, and the critically-acclaimed Lost Horizon, which was featured in Metal Hammer’s Tracks of the Week. All three songs form part of Esprit D’Air’s upcoming fourth album Aeons, slated for release on October 24, 2025—a record that promises to be the band’s most diverse and genre-defying work yet.

Esprit D’Air is the award-winning Japanese electronic rock/metal project led by Kai, operating entirely independently without label or management. Known for their distinctive fusion of genres, from symphonic metal to industrial rock, and now nu metal and rap, the project has been praised by Billboard, Loudwire, Kerrang! Radio, and BBC Radio for their uncompromising creativity and DIY ethos.

With previous albums Constellations, Seasons, and Oceans achieving chart success and singles like Leviathan and Shizuku hitting the Official Singles Chart Top 10, Esprit D’Air continues to carve their own path in the modern rock and metal scene.

After headlining legendary venues such as the Electric Ballroom in London, the band is currently on their Seasons & Aeons Tour across Europe, bringing their high-energy, genre-blending live show to fans around the continent.

"Zetsubou no Hikari" is available now on all streaming platforms. Pre-orders for the upcoming album Aeons are open now.
